Purdue IE R. Neale Moore was honored with 32 other finalists and recipients at a National and International Scholarships Office (NISO) reception.

Then-senior student Moore (BSIE 2018) was named as a Schwarzman Scholars semi-finalist on April 23, which gives funding for a one-year master's degree program at Tsinghua University, one of China's leading universities. Although Moore did not win the scholarship, he appreciated the opportunity to apply and to meet Steve Schwarzman during the final interview.

"I applied because ultimately I hope to combine my background in Chinese with my interest in business to help strengthen U.S.-China relations," Moore said. "The innovation occurring in China is unmatched and it is profoundly important that U.S. companies work closely with Chinese companies so that both countries can grow in innovation. I applied to Schwarzman Scholars because it provides the opportunity to receive a fully funded Master's degree with over 100 leaders from around the world in Global Affairs and Economics at Tsinghua University in Beijing."

Moore has already studied twice in China. He attended the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology a year ago, during the second semester of his junior year at Purdue. But he started studying Mandarin as a freshman in high school and studied abroad in Chengdu, China, the summer after his sophomore year of high school with the U.S. State Department through the National Security Language Initiative.

"Through these experiences, I saw the business opportunities and the ability to communicate with 1.4 billion more people in the world," explained Moore. "During my time in China, I also came to really enjoy the culture. Coming to Purdue, I decided to minor in Mandarin to further develop my language skills."

In addition to being a  Schwarzman Scholars semi-finalist, Moore has received the 2018 MIT Supply Chain Excellence Award, the Robert E Savage Scholarship, and the Greg Hales Scholarship. After graduating this May, he will work as a Business Technology Analyst for Deloitte Consulting in New York City.
