IE alumnus Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Robert D. Shadley was recently honored by the Purdue Board of Trustees for contributing over $1 million for faculty and student support in the Purdue School of Industrial Engineering.

Shadley and his wife, Ellie, have made a significant estate gift to Purdue IE which includes funding for the:

  • Bob and Ellie Shadley IE Scholarship Fund
  • Bob and Ellie Shadley Professorship in Industrial Engineering
  • Bob and Ellie Shadley IE Rising Star Professorship
  • Bob and Ellie Shadley Rethink IE Undergraduate Research Fellowship Award

The Shadleys are also sponsoring a new program which is the first of its kind in the Purdue College of Engineering - a scholarship to provide opportunities for IE students studying abroad in short-term IE-sponsored programs:

  • Bob and Ellie Shadley IE Global Studies Fund

Shadley earned his BSIE (1965) and MSIE (1966) degrees at Purdue, then spent 35 years serving in the U.S. Army and the Ordnance Corps (1965-2000). Shadley returns often to Purdue to speak with current students. In March 2017 he spoke to IE sophomores in the IE 200 Seminar course about his experience at Purdue, how his Purdue IE degree has helped him in his military and subsequent careers, and the importance of good character. He is now the founder and president of Shadley Editions, author of The GAMe: Unraveling a Military Sex Scandal, and a renowned speaker and change agent. Shadley was awarded the Purdue IE "Outstanding Industrial Engineer" award in 1999, and the Purdue Engineering "Distinguished Engineering Alumnus" award in 2004.

Purdue IE is very grateful for the Shadleys' support - thank you.
