The Purdue Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Professional Development Board planned four workshops to benefit IE students this semester. The fourth and final workshop will be held tonight (Nov. 17) at 7:45 PM in MSEE B102, on "Mannerisms".

"Mannerisms" will discuss everything from dining mannerisms to how to maintain networks.

On Oct. 10, the IISE held an "IEs in Industry Professional Development Workshop". IISE Professional Development Board Member Varun Raju said, "(Co-host) Sarah (Pushis) and I came up with the idea to talk about IEs in industry because together we knew a lot of students who had selected Industrial Engineering as a major, but didn’t know much about the different roles that they could fill in industry. We put on the event in order to show them their options going forward, and hopefully help them find a direction for themselves."

Fifty-five people attended to hear from fellow IE students who held co-op or internship positions at Disney, Meijer, Frito Lay, Roche, and PWC. "I thought the workshop was helpful," said sophomore IE student Kyle Ellsworth. "The speakers brought a lot of different experiences to the table, and that gave me a good idea of the different roles I can have as an IE when I graduate."

Other workshops this semester included "First Impressions" (how to approach companies and sell yourself) on October 24, and "The Internship Experience" (what to know and what to expect during your first job in the field) on Nov. 9.
