IE Alumna Ashley Benedict (Ph.D. 2011) featured in NSF Video
NSF recently released a video on the industrial and systems engineering work being done in healthcare by the New England Veterans Administration Resource Center (VERC). The video focuses on how Systems Engineer Tom Rust and Industrial Engineer Ashley Benedict work together to create and improve workflow efficiency within hospitals, which they accomplish by bringing systems engineering methods to hospital operations.
  International Foundation of Production Research has elected Professor Shimon Y. Nof as a Fellow
The award was bestowed in a ceremony at the ICPR-22 in Iguassu Falls, Brazil, in July 2013. The IFPR Fellow is awarded to distinguished leaders of production research who have impacted the understanding and benefits of production systems and processes worldwide. Nof has served as the US delegate to IFPR since 1991, Secretary General (1993-2007), President-Elect (2005-07) and President (2007-09).
'Best Paper Award for a Young Researcher' certificate IE-Graduate Student Mohsen Moghaddam Received "Best Paper by Young Researcher" Award
Mohsen won for his paper presented at ICPR-22 International Conference on Production Research at Iguassu Falls, Brazil. The topic of the article: Best Matching and Task Administration Protocols for Effective Demand and Capacity Sharing. Mohsen is a Ph.D. student at Purdue’s School of Industrial Engineering and a Senior Researcher of the PRISM Center at Purdue. ICPRs are the premier international conferences organized every other year in a different region of the world, and every other year in all three main regions of the world. They are organized by the IFPR, the International Foundation for Production Research. Congratulations Mohsen!
Assistive Wheelchair Tray Could Help People with Disabilities use iPads, Other Mobile Devices
Brad Duerstock, a Purdue University associate professor of engineering practice in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and School of Industrial Engineering, is developing the technology and other assistance technologies in the Purdue Institute for Accessible Science. "RoboDesk," a motorized wheelchair tray, could provide people with disabilities with an efficient and easy-to-use method to more easily position and remove an iPad or other mobile devices without being limited by a table or moving in and out of the chair.
Sukwon Lee Awarded SURF Mentor Award
Congratulations to Sukwon Lee, Industrial Engineering PhD Student for being awarded the "2013 Graduate Student Mentor of the SURF". Sukwon was the mentor for Jeongjoon Boo, a SURF student during the summer. Sukwon was recognized for this hard work and great personality by the SURF community.
