Professor Sutherland addresses Indiana NASF meeting

Purdue Environmental and Ecological Engineering Professor John W. Sutherland recently addressed the Indiana chapter of the National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF). At the November 4 meeting hosted by Endress+Hauser in Greenwood, Indiana, Dr. Sutherland gave a presentation entitled "Applying Deming's Lessons to the Challenge of Environmental Sustainability."

EEE Professors Jafvert, Howarter advise clean water startup company

Purdue Environmental and Ecological Engineering professors Chad Jafvert and John Howarter are company advisors for a Purdue-affiliated startup company. Maji Safi International LLC, which means clean water in Swahili, was founded by John Maiyo, a doctoral student at Purdue. The company provides safe drinking water solutions to developing countries around the world.

Professor Larry Nies inducted in Purdue Teaching Academy

Purdue Environmental and Ecological Engineering Professor Larry Nies was inducted in the Purdue Teaching Academy at a ceremony held on November 15. The induction ceremony, held at the Shively Club in Ross-Ade Stadium, recognized faculty members and graduate teaching assistants for outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate, or engagement programs.

EEE's Sutherland Gives Keynote on Social Impacts of Manufacturing

Purdue Environmental and Ecological Engineering Professor John W. Sutherland delivered a keynote presentation on the social impacts of manufacturing during the recent General Assembly of CIRP (College International pour la Recherche en Productique, also known as the International Academy for Production Engineering). The General Assembly was held in Guimaraes, Portugal from August 21-26.

Safe water for all: Purdue student on a mission to improve drinking water in the Dominican Republic

For Purdue University senior Jake Hawes, career inspiration comes in the form of contrast. The environmental and ecological engineering major had the opportunity to travel to two locations that couldn’t be more different; Stockholm, Sweden and Las Canas, Dominican Republic. In Stockholm, he noted highly advanced sustainability efforts, systems far ahead of what we have in the U.S. While in the Dominican Republic, a developing nation, it was urgent and fundamental needs commanding attention.

Indiana county environmental profiles now available online

Environmental profiles for all 92 Indiana counties created as part of the Bicentennial Torch project are now available online. These profiles were developed by a Purdue team of students during the two-year torch project, which included the collaborative efforts of College of Engineering students, staff, and faculty.
