The University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) recently selected Purdue Chemical Engineering alumna Dr. Julie (Myers) Ross (BSChE ’90) as Dean of their College of Engineering and Information Technology. She will begin the appointment Aug. 4, 2014.

Dr. Ross received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue in 1990 and completed her Ph.D. at Rice University working on platelet adhesion and aggregation on collagen surfaces under physiological flow conditions. In 1995 she joined the faculty at UMBC where she rose in the ranks to become chair of the chemical engineering department and the Constellation Professor of Information Technology and Engineering. In 2013 she received the American Council on Education (ACE) fellowship.

Dr. Ross has a distinguished record of scholarship in the field of bioengineering and engineering education; she is the author or co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications and the K-12 INSPIRES Curriculum. In 2008 she was elected a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Most recently, Dr. Ross served as Special Assistant to the Provost for Inter-Institutional Research Initiatives and has been instrumental in enhancing research relationships and collaborations between UMBC and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, including the development of the UMB-UMBC seed grant program.
