Zachary Batts, a graduate student in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, is the inaugural recipient of the Robert Rose Education Award in Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology. The Rose Award is presented in honor of the late Robert Rose, founder of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association.

Dr. Bryan Boudouris, the Robert and Sally Weist Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, is participating in a multi-institution collaborative study into which pedagogical innovations are adapted in new learning environments and how students benefit. The study is funded at $2.5 million by the National Science Foundation. Other partner universities include Campbell University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Davidson School of Chemical Engineering graduate student Andrew Radcliffe received first place at the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting for his presentation in the Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Division. Radcliffe earned the top prize from 144 submissions in the category.

Brendan Butler and Thomas Carpenter were selected for 2019-20 Fulbright U.S. Student Program research grants, which fully fund a post postbaccalaureate year for graduate students and alumni to forge international bonds through research, graduate study or teaching English abroad. Butler (BSChE May 2019) is from South Bend, Indiana, and is now on his Fulbright scholarship in Italy at Politecnico di Milano's Laboratory of Applied Physical Chemistry. Carpenter (BSChE December 2018) is from Bloomington, Indiana, and is now pursuing fuel cell and renewable energy system research within Norway's context of becoming a renewable energy economy.

Purdue University researchers are part of a multidisciplinary team working to better predict which patients will have side effects from specific chemotherapy drugs and develop therapeutic cures. Researchers include Parul Verma, a PhD candidate in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Doraiswami Ramkrishna, the Harry Creighton Peffer Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering. "This is really about examining the mechanisms of neuropathy and other side effects and what happens to the neurons in the body due to chemotherapy," Verma said. "Then, we can design drugs to treat cancer without causing the side effects or at least reduce the number or severity of side effects."
