ASCE has honored Michael O. Falk, P.E., L.S., F.ASCE (BSCE 1983), with the 2025 Surveying and Mapping Award for significant contributions to the advancement of the ASCE Geomatics Division, including his service as chair, and for his key leadership that led to the creation of the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute.

After more than 50 years of transforming global transportation education and research worldwide, Purdue University professor Kumares Sinha is retiring from the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering. The Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and member of the National Academy of Engineering celebrated his retirement on Nov. 19 with colleagues, former students and collaborators from around the world.

The IEEE Board of Directors has elevated Jie Shan, Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, to the grade of IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2026. Professor Shan received this honor for his contributions to advanced LiDAR analytics and technologies.

First highway segment in U.S. wirelessly charges electric heavy-duty truck while driving

For the first time in the U.S., a roadway has wirelessly charged an electric heavy-duty truck driving at highway speeds, demonstrating key technology that could help lower the costs of building electrified highways for all electric vehicles to use. The experimental highway segment tests a patent-pending system designed by Purdue engineers. The segment, built by the Indiana Department of Transportation, is a quarter-mile stretch on U.S. Highway 52/U.S. Highway 231 in West Lafayette.

Rao S. Govindaraju has been named the vice president for Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District at Purdue. In this role, he will strengthen Discovery Park District's one-of-a-kind research and educational facilities, fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving research that advances the university's strategic priorities. Govindaraju, who has led the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering since 2012, will begin the role in January.
