Samuel Labi, Professor of Civil Engineering, has been appointed chair of the International Road Federation (IRF) Committee on Alternative Financing.

PhD student Bruno Cesar Krause Moras has been selected as an International Road Federation (IRF) Fellow for the Class of 2026. He was co-nominated for this prestigious award by Professor Nadia Gkritza and Professor Samuel Labi. This fellowship has been the cornerstone of the careers of many who are now leading figures in the realm of roads and transportation globally.

Luna Lu, the Indiana ACPA Professor in Concrete Paving and Materials Science, has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Lu is the founder and CEO of the venture-backed startup company Wavelogix Inc., which was on Time magazine's list of best inventions in 2023.

ASCE has honored Michael O. Falk, P.E., L.S., F.ASCE (BSCE 1983), with the 2025 Surveying and Mapping Award for significant contributions to the advancement of the ASCE Geomatics Division, including his service as chair, and for his key leadership that led to the creation of the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute.

The Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and member of the National Academy of Engineering celebrated his retirement on Nov. 19 with colleagues, former students and collaborators from around the world.

The IEEE Board of Directors has elevated Jie Shan, Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, to the grade of IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2026. Professor Shan received this honor for his contributions to advanced LiDAR analytics and technologies.

For the first time in the U.S., a roadway has wirelessly charged an electric heavy-duty truck driving at highway speeds, demonstrating key technology that could help lower the costs of building electrified highways for all electric vehicles to use. The experimental highway segment tests a patent-pending system designed by Purdue engineers. The segment, built by the Indiana Department of Transportation, is a quarter-mile stretch on U.S. Highway 52/U.S. Highway 231 in West Lafayette.

Shared knowledge is the foundation on which the Purdue and Kiewit partnership is built. The university and company have a deep history of joining forces on everything from coursework to advisory councils to conferences. A recent component of the collaboration, which has rapidly grown to become its centerpiece, is the Kiewit Scholars program.

Andrew Whelton's team co-authored the first-ever evidence-based post-fire building environmental testing guide. Released in August 2025 and highlighted during the briefing, the report already has been downloaded more than 1,600 times by professionals, agencies and homeowners.
