A tribute to Dr. Milton E. Harr, Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering and leader in the geotechnical engineering field, was written by his colleagues Philippe Bourdeau & Jean-Lou Chameau and published by the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Harr passed away in the Fall of 2024.

After more than 50 years of transforming global transportation education and research worldwide, Purdue University professor Kumares Sinha is retiring from the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering. The Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and member of the National Academy of Engineering celebrated his retirement on Nov. 19 with colleagues, former students and collaborators from around the world.

The IEEE Board of Directors has elevated Jie Shan, Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, to the grade of IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2026. Professor Shan received this honor for his contributions to advanced LiDAR analytics and technologies.

For the first time in the U.S., a roadway has wirelessly charged an electric heavy-duty truck driving at highway speeds, demonstrating key technology that could help lower the costs of building electrified highways for all electric vehicles to use. The experimental highway segment tests a patent-pending system designed by Purdue engineers. The segment, built by the Indiana Department of Transportation, is a quarter-mile stretch on U.S. Highway 52/U.S. Highway 231 in West Lafayette.

Shared knowledge is the foundation on which the Purdue and Kiewit partnership is built. The university and company have a deep history of joining forces on everything from coursework to advisory councils to conferences. A recent component of the collaboration, which has rapidly grown to become its centerpiece, is the Kiewit Scholars program.

Ayman Habib, the Thomas A. Page Professor of Civil Engineering, will serve as the interim Head of the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering, effective December 15, 2025.

Rao S. Govindaraju has been named the vice president for Institutes and Centers at Discovery Park District at Purdue. In this role, he will strengthen Discovery Park District's one-of-a-kind research and educational facilities, fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving research that advances the university's strategic priorities. Govindaraju, who has led the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering since 2012, will begin the role in January.

Woei-Chyi Chang, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering, has been awarded the 2nd Place Prize in the Poster Competition at the 2025 ITS Michigan Annual Meeting.

Nicholas Ulliman (BSCNE 2010), Project Executive at Ulliman Schutte Construction, has received the 2025 Construction Engineering Emerging Leader Alumni Award.

Elizabeth Fox (BSCNE 2014), Technology Implementation Manager II at Barton Mallow, has received the 2025 Construction Engineering Emerging Leader Alumni Award.

Kenneth "Ken" Thieneman (BSCNE 1987), President/Owner of Thieneman Construction, Inc., has received the 2025 Construction Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award.

Allison McCue (BSCNE 2006), Senior Vice President of Planning at Webcor, has received the 2025 Construction Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award.

Robert Frosch, a professor of civil engineering and vice provost for academic facilities, has been selected to receive the Charles S. Whitney Medal by the American Concrete Institute, in recognition of his advancement of engineering knowledge.

Purdue Civil Engineering alumnus Chris Burke (BSCE '77, MSCE '79, PhD '83, HDR 2010) has received the 2025 President's Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He was presented with the medal during the 2025 ASCE Convention held in Seattle, Washington.
