Congratulations to Dr. Dongjun Mah, LSCCE and Herrick Labs graduate, who will start as tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas in July 2026.

Dongjun obtained his M.S. (2019) and Ph.D. (2024) from the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering, advised by Prof. Thanos Tzempelikos. His Ph.D. Thesis was entitled “Inferring Personal Visual Preferences and Heat Gain Estimation in Buildings using HDRI and Deep Learning Techniques”. In 2025-2026, he was a post-doctoral fellow, based in Herrick Labs.

Dongjun conducted experimental work on high-dynamic range imaging sensors and developed novel machine learning and computer vision techniques to enable human-centered, intelligent building controls. He participated in government- and industry-funded research projects, served as vice chair of the 6th  international high performance buildings conference in 2022, and was a mentor for graduate students during his post-doctoral term.
