In partnership, Purdue Libraries and the Joint Transportation Research Program (JTRP) achieved a major milestone on Sunday, December 7, 2014, with over one million downloads of technical reports within the Libraries’ Purdue e-Pubs, the University’s worldwide online open access Institutional document repository.

Undergraduate research website launches

Purdue has launched a new website designed to help undergraduate students engage in research activities. The site includes searchable lists of opportunities, learning resources for students and faculty, an option for faculty members to add new research opportunities, and information about the annual undergraduate research symposium.

A team comprised of Purdue civil engineering students advised by Prof. Santiago Pujol emerged victorious in the 2014 International Bridge Contest. Purdue has won the contest four of the past five years.

New book from Cheryl Cunningham inspires girls to become engineers

CE alumna and former advisory council member Cheryl Cunningham (BSCE '80) recently co-authored and published a children's book with her sister Judy. "Yes I Can! I'm Clover Anne!" tells a story about a little girl who encounters a problem and solves it using strategies and skills of an engineer.

Samiul Hasan, a 2013 Ph.D. graduate from the Transportation and Infrastructure Systems area, was awarded the 2014 INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics (TSL) Best Dissertation Award at the INFORMS annual meeting in San Francisco.

Recent CE graduate receives Chorafas Foundation honor

Siwei Li, a recent Ph.D. graduate in civil engineering, has been awarded the 2014 Chorafas Foundation Award in recognition of her work titled "Modeling of Photovoltaic Thermal Systems with Transpired Solar Collectors Integrated in Building Operation Simulations." performed under the supervision of Panagiota Karava, assistant professor of civil engineering and construction engineering management.

Virtual environments will help engineering students learn how to inspect bridges

Robert Connor, associate professor of civil engineering, is giving students experience and insight in bridge inspections in part through immersive, interactive virtual environments being created by ITaP's Envision Center. Starting Thursday (Sept. 11), the center will present a series of fall seminars about visualizing, animating or employing virtual reality in research or teaching.
