Bernie Engel and Larry Theller were awarded an EPA Exchange Network grant for $223,104  which will support modernization of the Indiana Water Monitoring Inventory website and database as well as other water quality efforts. The project will employ 3 to 4 undergraduate students who will learn JavaScript programming and spatial database SQL.

Helena Lysandrou received the award for Top Research Poster at the 2015 SURF banquet. Helena did her research with Professor Meng Deng, Nagarajan Narayanan, and Chunhui Jang. Congratulations to all!

NRCS engineering staff from across the state presented this year’s Engineering Boot Camp at the ADM Agricultural Innovation Center on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.  The week-long basic engineering training was attended by 25 students, to include employees from various agencies: 8 NRCS, 5 SWCD, 4 ISDA, 4 IDEM and 4 post-graduate Purdue students (Ahmed Hashem, Johann Veru, Ruoyu Wang, and Yaoze Liu).  The students were exposed to soils, hydrology, hydraulics, survey, layout, simple design, and other topics both in-class and out in the field.  The class is a starting point for newer employees on the road to gaining engineering expertise.  Engineering Boot Camp is free of charge to partnership employees and is organized and provided by the NRCS engineering staff every 2-3 years.
