The drag sail, named the Spinnaker3, was produced by a team of AAE students, faculty and staff at Purdue’s Space Flight Projects Laboratory.

Karen Marais, who joined AAE faculty in 2009, will be recognized for "excellent leadership and sustained dedication to aerospace education" and "tenacious advocacy for girls and young women in aerospace," a release from WIA said.

Aerospace engine manufacturing giant Rolls-Royce will expand its already large footprint at Purdue, thanks to a new commitment among the university, the Purdue Research Foundation and the company.
