In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, Purdue University will host the viewing of a new documentary on the personal life of the first man on the Moon and alumnus, Neil Armstrong.

Doug Adams (BSAAE ’94, MSAAE ’96, PhDAAE ‘01) has been selected as the Neil Armstrong Award of Excellence winner by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.

Representing the on-campus group in the Air Race Classic is Purdue Pilots Inc. Pilot Cathy Troyer, who just graduated from Purdue, is joined by co-pilot Morgan Pietruch, a junior in AAE, and in-plane team member Denise Whitford.

FlykeART, a Purdue University-affiliated student startup developing a lighter and smarter galley cart for airplanes, won $5,000 for placing in the top 10 in the International Business Model Competition held at Brigham Young University.

William A. Crossley, who joined AAE faculty in 1995, has been named as the head of the school. He will assume the position of J. William Uhrig and Anastasia Vournas Head of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics on July 20.

Sydney Dolan, Ethan Plaehn and Stephen Scheuerle were recognized as outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees.

Jim Luckring (BSAAE ’73, MSAAE ’74) was awarded for “vision and leadership to advance theoretical, experimental, and computation aerodynamics for separated flows, numerical uncertainty quantification, and CFD validation,” according to NASA.

William Gerstenmaier called it a "tremendous honor" to be presented with an honorary doctorate by President Mitch Daniels at Spring Commencement for his accomplishments as one of NASA’s most influential leaders and administrators.

AAE graduate student Jay Evans was selected for the Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program.
