Six interdisciplinary research teams at Purdue University have received $2.7 million in grants of $450,000 each through a partnership with the U.S. Navy. Among those are projects from AAE professors Vikas Tomar and Timothée Pourpoint.

AAE professors James Garrison and Alexey Shashurin presented at the recent Purdue Technology Showcase that featured dozens of pioneering innovations. The event featured 37 Purdue University innovators describing their innovations in four minutes or less before international company representatives, investors and entrepreneurs.

AAE Assistant Professor Michael Sangid is part of a new consortium of Purdue Engineering faculty and facilities with expertise in simulation-based engineering of materials and structures that is offering partnerships with Indiana-based manufacturers.

Two AAE undergrads will receive paid summer internships under the Brooke Owens Fellowship Program. Amy Comeau and Ana Paula Pineda Bosque were 2 of approximately 30 women selected from across the country. Both students were recommended for the program by AAE Visiting Assistant Professor Sarag Saikia.

AAE senior Pulkit Parolia is the winner of the SGT Outstanding Senior award. The award has been given out annually at Purdue University since 1976 to a senior in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics who has proven himself or herself academically while maintaining a reputation for outstanding character among their peers.

Amy Hess (BSAAE '89) is receiving the Distinguished Engineering Alumni award from Purdue's College of Engineering "for her service in various key roles within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, from special agent to executive assistant director of the Science and Technology Branch, and for her significant contributions to homeland security and fighting cyberterrorism."

Alumnus Bob Truitt (BSAAE '62) and his wife Patti (MAHSSE '63) have made the initial commitment to Pave the Way, a new philanthropic component to Purdue University's Back a Boiler income share agreement initiative.

Purdue Hyperloop will spend the Spring semester refining its pod, in preparation for a second competition this summer. The team made a solid showing at the first Hyperloop competition hosted by SpaceX at its headquarters in Hawthorne, CA.

Kathleen C. Howell, Hsu Lo Distinguished Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and associate dean for engineering at Purdue University, has been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering. Election to the NAE is among the highest professional honors for an engineer.
