Since Dr. Emmet Dennis, President of the University of Liberia, visited with graduate student leaders during a 2009 visit, PGSG has collected textbooks for shipment to this institution. Mechanical Engineering alumnus Ken Decker has been instrumental in the effort, transporting the books on the first leg of a long journey.
Dr. Prasoon Diwakar, post-doctoral research associate from Purdue University, was announced as the winner in the CappSci Inventors Program to develop his "Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Detector”. He will be developing his innovation through the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science for a year. The amount of the award is $100,000 to fund his work, mentorship and support.
Dr. Hany Abdel-Khalik was the co-author for the Best Paper/Presentation in the Reactor Physics Division (RPD) for the ANS 2015 Annual Meeting. Many excellent papers were submitted, and many excellent presentations were given, and it was determined through the ANS review and judging process that this paper was particularly good and deserving of this award of distinction.
