Graduate Awards from the Department:

Early-career Graduate Research Award:

  • Based on research accomplishments (such as peer-reviewed journal publications/presentations & awards).
  • Eligibility: Within the first two and three years of the graduate program for MS and PhD, respectively
  • GPA: Above 3.5.
  • Nominated by the advising faculty
  • Reviewed/Recommended by GC; Head selects
  • Monetary award of $750 (discretionary).
  • Anticipated # of awards: 1

Nuclear Engineering Graduate Research Award:

  • Based on research accomplishments (such as peer-reviewed journal publications/presentations & awards)
  • Eligibility: Must be enrolled into PhD program and have passed preliminary exam.
  • GPA: Above 3.5.
  • Nominated by the advising faculty
  • Reviewed/Recommended by GC; Head selects
  • Monetary award of $ 750 (discretionary).
  • Anticipated # of awards: 1
Applications must include the following materials:
  1. Statement of Purpose,
  2. CV listing GPA, current graduate student status, research accomplishment, experience, publications, service and extra curricular activities
  3. Nomination letter by the advising faculty (major professor)

Applications are due annually.

Undergraduate Awards from the Department:

Undergraduate Research Award:

Details about eligibility for this scholarship are as follows:

  1. Students cannot be enrolled in research for credit (NUCL 497) during the semester awarded.
  2. Preference will be given to students with clear motivation and potential for graduate studies.
  3. Students must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher
Applications must include the following materials:
  1. Students must write a research plan (~1 page) in consultation with a faculty advisor from the School of Nuclear Engineering (for a list of faculty and research interests, please see https://engineering.purdue.edu/NE/people/faculty). This research plan should briefly summarize the research area, the student’s planned contribution, and reasonable expectations for the proposed effort.
  2. The advising faculty member will submit a letter of recommendation for the student directly to me outlining agreement with the student’s plan and the student’s motivation and potential for future graduate studies.

Applications are due annually and will be reviewed by the Undergraduate Committee. An individual faculty member may advise no more than two students under this program.
