Visiting Assistant Professor

The School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for a visiting assistant professor. This position is full-time, academic year (9 month), beginning in August 2022.

The position of the visiting faculty includes the following duties:

  • Teaching within the School of Industrial Engineering at the undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) levels, with a focus on applied operations research and production systems coursework.
  • The individual will be assigned as the instructor-of-record for the courses taught and have autonomy to develop and deliver course content as appropriate (including: development of appropriate syllabi, assessment methods, grading and grade reporting, office hours, etc.)
  • Collaboration with other faculty (i.e., course coordinators) will be expected to ensure consistency across sections and semesters.
  • Hold all classes in accord with the university academic calendars, and be flexible in course assignments and teaching times according to program needs.
  • Assist with other duties related to teaching and mentoring students, as needed.

Candidates for the position must have completed a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or closely related field by the position start date. Evidence of teaching effectiveness, and experience teaching in an online format is preferred.

Graduate Program Administrator

The Graduate Program Administrator will assist the Director of Academic Programs to maintain and update policy documents. Administer both MS and PhD degree programs consistent with Graduate School and Industrial Engineering policy.  Support the Director of Industry Relations and Director of Academic Programs to create and facilitate logistics of external non-degree professional education programs. Assist students in determining and evaluating their interests and abilities, and help students link their interests/abilities with programs, emphasis areas, and Purdue resources. Guide students in developing a plan of study that meets all degree requirements and fits within their timetable for graduation. Support the graduate admission processes in conjunction with IE Graduate Committee and Director of Academic Programs. Develop program information documents, forms, and web displays and coordinate assembly of graduate student information for University bulletins and other publications.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, counseling, higher education, or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in academic administration or academic program advising (experience must include supporting student recruitment and retention, admissions, and registration)
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and work experience (e.g. Master's degree and one year of experience)
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of academic advising
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy as necessary
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff students and parents
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
  • Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
  • Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS
