IEs honored at grad student awards events

A Purdue IE faculty member and several graduate students were honored at two recent college and university events.

The 2019 College of Engineering Graduate Student Research, Teaching, and Service Awards Luncheon took place on April 23 in the Purdue Memorial Union. The College honored a faculty member and several graduate students at this annual event for:

  • 2019 Outstanding Mentor of Engineering Graduate Students for Industrial Engineering - Christopher Quinn, assistant professor of industrial engineering. Purdue IE graduate students chose Quinn for this annual award in recognition of his exceptional mentoring qualities.
  • Outstanding Research Award - Michelle Jahn Holbrook, PhD (2019), (Caldwell GROUPER Lab), for excellence and leadership in research through publications, participation in professional organizations, and willingness to mentor others.
  • Outstanding Service Scholarship - Audrey Reinert, PhD Candidate (Landry Lab), for providing outstanding service to the graduate student community, the School, the College, and/or the University.
  • Estus H. and Vashti L. Magoon Award for Excellence in Teaching - Duy Duong-Tran (Goñi CONNPlexity Lab), Shree Frazier (McComb Lab), Maya Luster (Pitts NHanCE Lab), Mojib Saei (Chandrasekar CMPT Lab), and Anna Tatara (Honnappa SSL Lab). The Magoon Awards are given to outstanding teaching assistants.

In a separate April 23 event, the 21st Annual Celebration of Teaching Excellence, Jackie Cha (Yu HEAL Lab) and Jordan R. Hill (Caldwell GROUPER Lab) received the Certificate of Foundations in College Teaching for completing the Center for Instructional Excellence workshop series. The Purdue Teaching Academy, Office of the Provost, Graduate School and Center for Instructional Excellence hosted the event.

A final Purdue IE graduate awardee, Zhaoyu Kou (Cai uSMART Lab) received the Hugh W. and Edna M. Donnan Fellowship from the College of Engineering, which recognizes outstanding PhD candidates for their superior academic abilities and scholarly achievements, and provides funding to complete their final year of PhD studies.
