"Societal Impact of Industrial Engineering: Personal Experiences"
ABSTRACT
High quality and high impact publications are prerequisite but insufficient conditions for faculty excellence. Publications must be supplemented by the societal impact of work that benefits mankind. Examples and lessons learned from personal experiences in both service and manufacturing industries will be presented and discussed.
BIO
Dr. Gavriel Salvendy is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), professor emeritus of Industrial Engineering at Purdue, was the founding head of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University, and currently is the University Distinguished Professor at the University of Central Florida. He is the recipient of the John Fritz Medal, which is the engineering profession's highest award. He is the founding president of the Florida Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine. His work focuses on the human side of design and operation of engineering systems.
