Herrick Students win at Noise Control Conference

Several Herrick students received awards at Noise-Con 2017, the annual conference of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering held recently in Grand Rapids, MI.

Rui Cao, who is a Ph.D. student working under the guidance of Prof. Stuart Bolton, received the Leo Beranek Student Medal Award.  The Leo Beranek Medal was established by the Board of Directors of INCE/USA on October 24, 2010 to recognize excellence in the study of Noise Control Engineering. It is awarded annually to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students at those academic institutions in North America that have courses in, or related to, Noise Control Engineering, including practical applications.

Weonchan Sung, a Ph.D. student working under the guidance of Prof. Patricia Davies, won the Best Paper Award for his paper titled, "Descriptors of Sound from HVAC&R Equipment".

Yutong (Tony) Xue, also a Ph.D. student working under the supervision of Prof. Stuart Bolton, won the Best Presentation of a Classic Paper in Noise Control Award for his paper titled, "Overview of J.B. Morelands's 1976 paper on: Controlling Industrial Noise by Means of Room Boundry".

Prof. Yong-Joe Kim, the presenter of the Best Paper awards, is a Herrick Labs graduate himself!  He received his Ph.D. in 2003 under the supervision of Prof. Stuart Bolton and he is currently an Associate Professor at Texas A&M.
