Creating a More Intelligent Building: Herrick Conferences

Did you know that buildings consume 40 percent of the nation's energy? Creating efficient buildings saves energy, and helps to stave off climate change. That's the focus of three simultaneous conferences happening this week at Herrick Labs: the 16th International Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Conference, the 23rd International Compressor Engineering Conference, and the 4th International High Performance Buildings Conference.

David Cappelleri was featured on WRTV6 last night as an expert in micro aerial vehicles (also called drones). Police used a drone to locate missing Lafayette teacher Krista Perdue. Microbots individually controlled using mini force fields

Researchers are using a technology likened to "mini force fields" to independently control individual microbots operating within groups -- an advance aimed at using the tiny machines in manufacturing and medicine. The work is being overseen by David Cappelleri, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue.
