ChE alumna Dr. Kristin Thunhorst (BSChE '93) receives AIChE Industrial R&D Award

Purdue Chemical Engineering alumna Dr. Kris Thunhorst (BSChE '93) has been awarded the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) 2018 Industrial Research and Development Award for innovation that has resulted in the successful commercial development of new products and/or new processes for making useful products.

Purdue Chemical Engineering alumna Dr. Kris Thunhorst has been awarded the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) 2018 Industrial Research and Development Award for innovation which has resulted in the successful commercial development of new products and/or new processes for making useful products.

The award will be presented at the Institute’s Honors Ceremony on October 28, 2018, held during AIChE’s 2018 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Thunhorst was nominated for the AIChE award by Purdue Chemical Engineering alumnus Dr. Christopher Bowman (BSChE ’88, PhD ’91), Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Dr. Thunhorst received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue in 1993, and her PhD in 1998 from the University of Colorado. She was recently promoted to staff scientist at 3M, one of only 120 total staff scientists in the company, and one of only eight females at that level within the organization. She holds 18 patents with 3M.
