Jeff Valley Receives the Inaugural School of Chemical Engineering Staff Excellence Award

Jeff Valley, Building Deputy, is the recipient of the inaugural School of Chemical Engineering Staff Excellence Award.

Jeff Valley, Building Deputy, is the recipient of the inaugural School of Chemical Engineering Staff Excellence Award.

Jeff started with the School of Chemical Engineering on July 5, 1995. Before that, from 1991 to 1995, he worked in Earhart Hall in a maintenance position. He owned a construction company before joining Purdue. In his current position, Jeff is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of Forney Hall, a 200,000 sf facility (90,750 asf) where hundreds of students, faculty and staff come to work and study every day. His work is to enable everyone of us to do our job in a good, clean, safe space. There are many aspects of Jeff’s performance that are worth mentioning, but the most important of all is the fact that he now manages a space twice the size of what it was when he was hired 15 years ago. He does his work with his characteristic competence and calm reassurance, and treats everyone with the same respect, regardless of their status at Purdue or the importance of the problem they bring to him.

In recognition for his efforts, Jeff received the “One Brick Higher” award from President Martin Jischke in November 2006. We are glad to add to this the Inaugural 2010 Staff Excellence Award.

Congratulations Jeff!

Staff Awards Information

The Staff Excellence Award was initiated this year to recognize ChE staff members that consistently perform at an outstanding level. Five nominations were received and a committee comprised of five faculty and staff members had a very difficult decision in choosing the winner. It is with great pleasure that I announce the inaugural winner is Jeff Valley.
