Stimulus Funds Related to Electric Vehicle Education and Research Awarded, with Purdue as Lead and Caruthers as PI

Professor Caruthers is the lead Principal Investigator on a stimulus grant related to electrical vehicle education and a subcontract from EnerDel related to production of lithium-ion cells and packs for hybrid and electric vehicles.

 

President Barack Obama announced that Purdue University will receive a $6.1 million grant to develop degree and training programs for electric vehicles. Professor Caruthers is the Principal Investigator on this grant, which involves several other Purdue faculty members and partnerships with University of Notre Dame, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University Calumet and Indiana University Northwest. 
Purdue and the IN consortium will also receive $4M in research funds as sub-contract from EnerDel, who received $118M for the Battery Manufacturing program. The focus will be production of lithium-ion cells and packs for hybrid and electric vehicles. Professor Caruthers is PI of this part also, with Professor Pekny and other faculty members from Purdue as Co-PIs.
