Purdue awarded $15 million NSF engineering research center

Along with Rutgers University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the University of Puerto Rico, Purdue was named to receive a $15 million grant from the NSF to fund an Engineering Research Center (ERC) "to research and improve the way pharmaceuticals, foods and agricultural products are developed and manufactured."

The lead investigator for Purdue and deputy director of the center is Prof. Rex Reklaitis, who notes that "all of these universities have established teaching and research programs in pharmaceutical sciences and process and particulate systems engineering...The center also will study how to efficiently manufacture such structured materials in large quantities. This could lead to a significant reduction in the cost of manufacturing pharmaceutical, nutritional and agricultural products, and that will help meet the needs of society."
