Research seeks to improve electrical infrastructure against weather outages

Researchers at Purdue University are working toward a solution to help minimize risks associated with power outages caused by severe weather events, such as the recent series of hurricanes that devastated several nations. Makarand Hastak, professor and head of Construction Engineering and Management, is leading a multidisciplinary team of researchers in a project titled Towards a Resilient Grid: An Investment Prioritization Decision Framework that Integrates the Growing Risks of Severe Weather-Induced Outages, funded by a $468,851 grant from the National Science Foundation.

CEM alum Jonathan White appointed Envoy Inc.'s VP of Construction

Envoy Inc., a local construction and development firm, has appointed Jonathan White as vice president of construction. He most recently served as a superintendent and later as a design manager for Hensel Phelps. White received his BS in construction engineering and management from Purdue University in 1999.

TIME names Purdue best college in Indiana

Each year, TIME's MONEY digs into enrollment data and student outcomes to determine which colleges provide the best value for your tuition dollars—a process that, this year, yielded the 2017 Best Colleges for Your Money ranking. Out of those 711 schools, MONEY produced a list identifying the best college in every state, with the exceptions of Alaska and New Mexico, neither of which had any colleges in MONEY's 2017 rankings.
