Satish Ukkusuri, Reilly Professor of Civil Engineering, has been appointed co-Editor-in-Chief of the new ACM Journal on Autonomous Transportation Systems (JATS), published by the Association for Computing Machinery. Vaneet Aggarwal, Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering at Purdue, will also be co-Editor-in-Chief. Both will serve a three-year term through February 2025. This will be the flagship ACM journal in transportation

JATS will cover the topics in design, analysis, and control of autonomous transportation systems. The area of autonomous transportation systems is at a critical point where issues related to data, models, computation and scale are increasingly important. Similarly, multiple disciplines including Computer Science, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering are approaching these problems with a significant growth in research activity.  This area raises novel challenges for improving traffic operations, road safety, sustainability, and efficient road traffic and vehicle management in passenger and goods delivery. Indeed, the lives of people who travel along roads on a regular basis are directly affected by traffic management and safety. The journal will publish original, high quality papers in all areas of autonomous transportation with a focus on computation and systems modeling.
