Congratulations to Alex Hainen, recipient of the 2014 College of Engineering Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award

Congratulations to Alex Hainen, recipient of the 2014 College of Engineering Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award. The award recognizes excellence in graduate student research from across the College of Engineering. Student recipients are recognized at the Spring Graduate Student Awards luncheon and receive a certificate and a $2000 award.

Priority is given to students who have demonstrated excellence in research through:

  • Peer-reviewed publications in journals or conference proceedings
  • Awards for research, including best paper and outstanding presentations
  • Recognized or potential contribution of the research to the field
  • Recognized or potential contribution of the research to Society
  • Leadership within a research group or community (including mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in their research)
  • Academic achievement
  • Participation in professional societies

Alex Hainen is a Ph.D. candidate at Purdue University and future faculty at the University of Alabama in civil engineering focusing on transportation engineering. He completed his bachelor of science in civil engineering at Michigan Technological University in 2009 and his master of science in civil engineering at Purdue University in 2011. His research interests include traffic operations, traffic signals, roundabouts, travel time, and airport operations.
