Faculty Emeritus Milton Harr delivered a seminar focusing on his career in the military, in academia and as an engineering consultant.  His session was targeted at students pursuing a career in civil engineering as a kick-off event to the Civil Engineering Open House on Friday, September 18th.

Milton Harr: A Career in Civil Engineering.  From Chelsea, Massachusetts to Normandy, France and Iwo Jima, Japan to West Lafayette, Indiana and all around the world, Milton Harr has enjoyed successful careers.  He served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, was a member of Purdue’s faculty for 43 years and has been a consultant on such monumental engineering projects as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Apollo Lunar Module and Mt. St. Helens volcano.  Milt is an accomplished author of four technical books and a number of chapters in other technical volumes, and has authored or coauthored over 100 refereed papers.  He was awarded the Purple Heart during WWII, elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 1997 and was recently appointed a chevalier of the Legion of Honor – France’s highest award.  He has lectured all across the globe, to a variety of audiences.  Milt’s message has great relevance and significance for today’s aspiring civil engineers.
