Yin Hang, Ph.D. student in Architectural Engineering, has been awarded the Chorafas Foundation Award. The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation was founded in 1992 at the initiative of Prof. Dimitris N. Chorafas. Each year, the Foundation awards a prize of $4,000 to more than 20 universities, with the goal of stimulating promising young researchers.

Yin received her bachelor and master degree in the major of Mechanical Engineering in China, focusing on the HVAC system design and controls. Currently, she works with Prof. Qu as a research assistant on the solar assisted cooling and heating system. Her awarded dissertation topic is “Integrated Energy, Economic, and Environmental Assessment of Solar Absorption Cooling and Heating System”. Theoretical system modeling, experiments, life cycle cost, life cycle analysis, and multi-objective optimization methods are included in this research. Her work will have great influence in the whole research community of green building technologies and renewable based building energy system. She contributes a lot to the new solar cooling and heating lab establishment, and she has tirelessly worked on the system design, equipment procurement and system installation. Up to today, she has already published four papers in the prestigious journals and six conference papers. Besides the Chorafas Foundation Award, she also received the ‘best paper award’ at the 1st High Performance Building Conference. She is a student member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and ASME.
