Transportation engagement from the U.S. to Germany

On Wednesday, April 13th, the Lyles School of Civil Engineering hosted the German America Chamber of Commerce for a seminar on the innovation of energy efficiency in transportation systems. The event kick-off was a poster session in the Woods Commons to highlight some active research projects and give students an opportunity to engage with German transportation specialists.

Nader Naderpajouh recognized as Outstanding Reviewer by ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering

Nader Naderpajouh, Visiting Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management, has been recognized as an outstanding reviewer by the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering. He was selected based on his diligent reviews and constructive comments throughout 2015 to ensure the integrity of the research that is published in the areas associated with the contemporary issues on management and leadership in engineering.

Lisa Lorena Losada Rojas, an undergraduate student from Colombia who was hosted here at Purdue last year through the Purdue-Colombia Institute, has been recognized for having the best thesis in her field at the National University of Colombia.

Ayda Galvis named first recipient of Langan Scholarship

The first Bernard F. Langan Scholarship at Purdue University was awarded to Ayda Catalina Galvis, a graduate student pursuing her Ph.D. in civil engineering at Purdue University. Her thesis is titled "Effect of Cyclic Loads on the Axial Capacity of Piles." She obtained her B.S. and M.S in civil engineering from the National University of Colombia.

Hamed Zamenian receives national trenchless technology scholarship

Hamed Zamenian, doctoral student in Civil Engineering, was awarded the Argent Memorial Scholarship from North America Society of Trenchless Technology (NASTT) in Dallas, TX on March 28, 2016. Hamed works with Professor Dulcy Abraham and is pursuing doctoral research related to the socioeconomic assessment of water main breaks in water supply and distribution systems.

Freeze-Thaw Performance of Precast, Prestressed Concrete Railroad Crossties

Daniel Castaneda, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, presented his seminar on March 31. His research seeks to understand the consequence of design, handling, and placement of fresh concrete and cementitious materials as they relate to the long-term durability of civil infrastructure.

Chris Williams, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, participated in the 2016 ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop at Florida Gulf Coast University on June 19-24, 2016. He presented three classes during the workshop.

Purdue students build, implement water treatment systems abroad

Once a week for two hours, students in majors ranging from agricultural economics to nursing to engineering gather in Armstrong Hall and work toward a common goal: designing, building and implementing water treatment systems for small, impoverished communities in the Dominican Republic. These students are all a part of the course "Water Supply in Developing Countries."

Larry Nies, professor of civil engineering and environmental and ecological engineering, has been named the recipient of a 2016 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in Memory of Charles B. Murphy. Nies was surprised with the news on Wednesday (March 23).

Research agreement established between Purdue and European Commission

Purdue University and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission have entered into a collaborative research agreement with the mutual desire to cooperate in the field of hybrid cyber-physical testing, resilience of buildings and civil infrastructures for natural hazards, online repositories of research data, and efficient use of research infrastructure at international level.
