Grad Students Help Advance Fish Monitoring Project for Native Alaskan Villages

Two Purdue graduate students have developed sampling kits and educational materials for three Native Alaskan villages as part of an interdisciplinary partnership between Purdue faculty and the Alaska Native Youth Institute. Leila Nyberg (CE/ESE) and Laurel Royer (Agronomy) became involved with the project in February 2008.

CE sophomore Brett Westcott, along with Cameron Brown, have gained an international reputation as the "Compliment Guys" for spreading goodwill & high-fives to the Purdue student body. Now they're taking their operation on the road with a ten city tour sponsored by Kodak.

The Schneider Corporation, Indiana's largest civil engineering, GIS and land surveying company, awarded Derek Anger, a junior CE student, with a scholarship for the Spring 2009 semester.

Researchers at Purdue University and the NEXTRANS Center are applying cutting-edge technology to develop a model that can accurately measure travel-time reliability. This model may provide a new basis for transportation professionals to monitor the performance and benefits of activities implemented on roadway networks.

Bernard Amadei EWB-USA gives 7th Leonards Lecture

On April 24, 2009, the Purdue Geotechnical Society hosted the 7th G.A. Leonards Lecture, in honor of Professor Gerald A. Leonards, a Purdue geotech faculty member from 1946-1991. This year's Leonards lecturer is Prof. Bernard Amadei from the Univ. of Colorado at Boulder, with his lecture entitled "Engineering With a Human Face."
