Dr. Corvalan applies a multidisciplinary approach to the solution of problems at the interface of biology and engineering. His research focuses on the dynamics of complex fluids and transport phenomena in synthetical and biological systems. His current research includes:
* Fluid dynamics and solid mechanics: biofluid dynamics; computational biomechanics; processing of biopolymers and biomedical manufacturing; rheology of biomaterials; flows at the micro and nanoscale; numerical methods.
* Transport phenomena in biological systems: heat and mass transfer in living systems, multiphysics modeling.
* Moving and free boundary problems: Fluid-solid interaction; interfacial transport processes, surfactant dynamics and interfacial rheology; membrane, capsule and cell mechanics.
Most projects involve a blend of experimental testing, and analytical and computational modeling. Opportunities exist for research at all levels: B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.
Dr. Corvalan has taught fluid mechanics and process engineering courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
