Before retiring from Boeing, alumnus William 'Ted' Torgerson managed the development of Boeing's self-funded T-X aircraft and training system in partnership with Saab. That included the development of the winning bid for the Air Force's next jet trainer program.

The drag sail, named the Spinnaker3, was produced by a team of AAE students, faculty and staff at Purdue’s Space Flight Projects Laboratory.

Karen Marais, who joined AAE faculty in 2009, will be recognized for "excellent leadership and sustained dedication to aerospace education" and "tenacious advocacy for girls and young women in aerospace," a release from WIA said.
