AAE faculty and students explain what it's like in their field

Take it from those who know: Rocket science doesn’t mean either building rockets or being an astronaut. It doesn’t mean being born wearing thick glasses and holding a calculator. And it certainly doesn’t mean something impossible to understand.


Real-life rocket scientists specialize in the different elements of sending a spacecraft into space from its path to its fuel to fixing the problems it might have. Then these experts work together to make space flight happen.

3 AAE doctoral students awarded the 2012 Zonta International Fellowship

The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships were established in 1938 in honor of Amelia Earhart, famed pilot and Zonta club member. The Fellowships are granted annually to women pursuing graduate Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering.

Trustees elect Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. as Purdue's 12th president

The Purdue Board of Trustees on Thursday (June 21) unanimously selected Indiana Gov. Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. to be the university's next president.

Daniels will start in January at the conclusion of his second term as governor. He will be Purdue's 12th president, succeeding France A. Córdova, who will step down July 15.

Students Honor Former Astronaut

An interactive sculpture of the planetary system, about a football field in length, will crown a new mall at the south end of Purdue's Discovery Park.
Purdue students in a service-learning class designed the sculpture -Visiting Our Solar System, VOSS - and named it in honor of the late Janice Voss, a Purdue alumna who flew on five shuttle missions
