Purdue University's Gambaro Graduate Program in Aeronautics and Astronautics (AAE) has once again been recognized No. 5 aerospace engineering program in the country, and the No. 2 at a public university, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings

Purdue AAE's graduate program has ranked in the top six overall for 28 consecutive years — ever since USNWR began ranking the discipline. This consistency is a testament to Purdue's academic rigor, research excellence, and alumni impact in aerospace globally. The College of Engineering held its spot at No. 4.

"We're proud that our peers, once again, recognize Purdue AAE as a top five program, known for our deep commitment to research, innovation, and preparing future aerospace leaders," said professor Bill Crossley, the Uhrig & Vournas Head of Aeronautics and Astronautics. "Our students, faculty, and alumni continue to set the pace for innovation and leadership in aerospace."

In addition, AAE has produced more aerospace engineers than any other school in the US since 2020. Purdue AAE’s undergraduate program is also among the best in the nation — ranked No. 3 for 2026.

These rankings are part of a broader wave of national recognition for the university. AAE is one of 12 programs at Purdue ranked in the top 10. Purdue also made the Forbes list of New Ivies.

With globally recognized faculty, deep industry ties, dozens of alumni astronauts and thousands of alumni leaders across aerospace sectors, Purdue AAE continues to shape the future of human activity in air and space.
