Mizzi receives prestigious Wings Club scholarship at NYC gala
Purdue AAE student Abigail Mizzi has been awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Wings Club Foundation. The scholarship recognizes exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and passion for aviation and aerospace. Recipients are invited to formally receive their award at the club’s gala in New York City, and be honored before leaders in the aerospace industry.
Professor Karen Marais lauded Mizzi for embodying the “true spirit of Purdue’s ‘Grit’ — a combination of creativity, problem-solving skills, and unwavering commitment to her peers,” Marais wrote in her nomination. “She has created positive change on campus. Her passionate and driven leadership exemplifies the kind of student who gives back to the Purdue community,”
Mizzi balances the demands of engineering coursework with her leadership roles at Purdue: president of the Society of Women Engineers; an ambassador for the Honors College, AAE department, and College of Engineering; an undergraduate researcher in the Mechanical Engineering department; and a technical lead in the Purdue Space Programs
Mizzi shakes hands with Mahendra Nair, president of the Wings Club Foundation and a group vice president at GE Aerospace, and Greg Hamilton.
“It was such a cool event, and I’m super grateful for the nomination by Purdue AAE and Professor Marais!” Mizzi says.
