AAE alumnus David Loffing (BSAAE ’02, MSAAE ’04, OAE ’16) has moved into a new role at Boeing, becoming the company’s 747 Chief Project Engineer.

Loffing moved from the NMA program where he was working the Digital Transformation efforts. Previously, he was the Airplane Level Integration Team (ALIT) leader for the 737 MAX Airplane Development program. Loffing also held various leadership roles on the 747-8 program, spanning Product Development through certification and delivery.

Loffing joined The Boeing Company as a summer intern in 2002 and moved to full time in 2004 as an Airplane Configuration Engineer in the 747 Product Development group. From 2004-2011, he had the unique opportunity to be part of the entire development cycle of the 747-8 Freighter and Intercontinental airplanes. After certification and delivery of the first 747-8F in 2011, Loffing joined the management ranks at Boeing in Aerodynamics Stability & Control as a manager of the Simulation and Accident Investigation teams. He would later serve as the senior manager of the Airplane Configuration & Integration organization at Boeing Commercial Airlines.

“Purdue connected my passion for aerospace with the potential within me,” Loffing said before being named an Outstanding Aerospace Engineer by AAE in 2016. “Without a doubt, the education and hands-on experience I gained while at Purdue has been — and will continue to be — instrumental in my career.”
