School of AAE Ph.D. Student Devendra Verma receives scholarship for Outstanding Service

Purdue's College of Engineering has awarded an Outstanding Service Scholarship to School of AAE Ph.D. student Devendra Verma.

Purdue's College of Engineering has awarded an Outstanding Service Scholarship to School of AAE Ph.D. student Devendra Verma. The Outstanding Service Scholarship includes an award of $2,000 to a graduate student who has provided outstanding service to the graduate student community, the school, the college, and/or the university.

Devendra Verma is currently a doctoral student in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue working with Dr. Vikas Tomar. His Ph.D. work is focused on understanding the interfacial damage mechanics of metallic and biomimetic materials during impact loading. Originally from Alwar, Rajasthan in India, Verma graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in May 2011 with Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering. He received his Masters from Purdue's School of AAE in Dec 2012.

Verma's selected contributions to the Purdue and the Greater Lafayette community include:

Boiler Out, ISS (2012-2014) - Lead international student groups of 6 to 40 members to volunteer in the greater Lafayette community at Almost Home Humane Society, Food Finders, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, schools, and others.

Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG) – Vice President for External Affairs (2015- ), Secretary (2014-15), Academic and Professional Development Committee Chair(2013-14), AAE Senator (2012-2014), Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee (2013-), Aero Assist (2012-14)

Asian Pacific American Caucus, APAC, (2012-) Making Purdue a more inclusive community by increasing cross cultural communication and understanding through activities, movie series, lectures (WALLA etc.) and artistic projects.
