Major General Thomas J. Masiello Speaks at 2014 Rolls-Royce Memorial Lecture

Purdue University's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics was pleased to welcome Air Force Major General Thomas J. "Tom" Masiello to the 2014 Charles Rolls and Henry Royce Memorial Lecture on October 8, 2014. General Masiello spoke to the audience in the Purdue Memorial South Ballroom on the topic of National Defense: The Role of Science and Technology. Opening remarks were made by Purdue President Mitch Daniels and School of AAE Head Dr. Tom Shih.
Begun in 2002, the Charles Rolls and Henry Royce Memorial Lectures Series is presented by Rolls-Royce and the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. This bi-annual Lecture Series brings eminent speakers from the aviation and aerospace industries to the Purdue Campus to inspire students considering careers in these exciting fields. The 2014 lecture was the seventh in the series. Rolls-Royce is proud to have a strong partnership with Purdue University, and welcomes the opportunity to celebrate their great collaborative relationship.
General Masiello was commissioned in 1981 and is responsible for managing a $4 billion science and technology program that includes both Air Force and customer-funded research and development. He is also responsible for a global workforce of approximately 10,000 people in the laboratory's component technology directorates, 711th Human Performance Wing and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Students were able to engage with General Masiello during the reception following. Rolls Royce representatives were on hand to interact with students interested in learning more about the company.
