Professor John P. Sullivan - elected fellow of AIAA
John P. Sullivan, professor of aeronautics and astronautics and director of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing, was recently elected a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. AIAA fellows are chosen for making notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.
Sullivan is among 28 fellows elected in 2012 that represent a wide spectrum of fields including aerospace design and structures, aerospace design and structures, aerospace sciences, aircraft and atmospheric systems, engineering and technology management, information systems, propulsion and energy, and space and missiles. All the 2012 fellows will be honored in ceremonies in Alexandra, Va., and Washington DC this May.
Sullivan's research interests are in experimental aerodynamics with particular emphasis on comparison of experimental data with computational analysis. Current programs include high-lift systems and suction/blowing airfoils. He also works on laser instrumentation — laser Doppler velocimeter, particle image velocimeter, laser sheet concentration, etc., and pressure and temperature paint for low-speed to hypersonic wind tunnels, as well as gas turbine engines, and flight tests.
Congratulations to Professor Sullivan on this notable honor.
