TASI 110-Car Naturalistic Driving Study

Data Collection:

TASI Conducted naturalistic driving experiments with 110 subjects and their cars in the greater Indianapolis area for a 12-month period between 2012 and 2013. Off-the-shelf vehicle black boxes were used for data recording. 100 TB of naturalistic driving data was collected over a total of about 1.44 million miles.

Pedestrian Detection and Behavior Analysis:

Bicycle Detection and Behavior Analysis:

Two-stage detection scheme:

A fast and rough classifier work as a candidate window selection step

A refined classifier decide the final score

Bicycle Tracking:

Accomplishments:

  • Studied pedestrian & bicyclist behaviors
  • Developed standard vehicle-pedestrian/bicyclist conflict scenarios
  • Supported the development of pedestrian/bicyclist crash mannequins
