Human Factors Research Activities

Standardized Evaluation of Camera-based Driver State Sensor:

Driver glance behavior control system (patented)

Head-pose and eye-glance tracking functionalities are key components of camera-based driver state sensing devices, which require standard and elaborated evaluation before being used in cars:

  • Large-number of human participants to cover individual differences/li>
  • Reliable data collection & ground-truth systems/li>
  • Controlled in-lab test/li>
  • Naturalistic driving test

In-Vehicle Gaze Following and Driver Classification:

Different drivers perform different behaviors when looking at different visual targets for different purposes. Through modeling the individual differences in eye glance and head turn correspondence, we can:

  • Achieve universal in-vehicle gaze following mechanism
  • Classify driver characteristics
  • Predict driver intention
