Toyota IP Solutions and IUPUI Issue First Commercial License for Automatic Emergency Braking Safety Testing

INDIANAPOLIS (July 22, 2020) – Toyota and Hebei Pride today announced a new license agreement to commercialize standardized safety testing systems for the development and validation of automotive automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. The agreement is the first license from Toyota IP Solutions, which launched in late 2019 to broaden access to Toyota’s world leading patent portfolio.

Toyota Video: Meet Steve. The Dummy

INDIANAPOLIS (March 30, 2015) - Steve is a moving dummy (also known as a mannequin) that stands in for a pedestrian crossing a road. Mannequins like Steve – which come in adult and child sizes – mimic different walking speeds and angles to allow for realistic testing situations.

This technology was developed through a partnership of Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Ohio State University. The study used data from volunteers of all shapes and sizes—including children— to develop a groundbreaking pedestrian mannequin – “Steve” – that is contributing unique technologies for future safety testing. IUPUI works with Toyota on autonomous vehicle technology

INDIANAPOLIS (August 13, 2017) – The future of self-driving vehicles is in full swing. Indianapolis may be a key player when it comes to developing the future technology. IUPUI has partnered with Toyota to work on a road departure test and method development project. They are one of eight universities across the country at work on 11 different projects. Inside IUPUI’s Transportation Active Safety Institute, or TASI for short, students and researchers are able to use a simulator to test various scenarios.
