“In a world that is fast-paced and focuses on rapid development, sustainability engineering encourages us to think critically about how our engineering projects and development can impact current and future generations,” said Hurin Hasnan about the importance of sustainability as she reflected on the successful completion of the sixth week of the EEE 47200: Community-Engaged Engineering and Design course.

The Purdue University School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering is proud to celebrate two outstanding faculty members whose achievements exemplify excellence in research, service, and professional impact. Associate professors Amisha Shah and Zhi (George) Zhou, both jointly appointed in the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering and Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering, have been recognized with prestigious national honors that highlight their leadership in advancing environmental solutions.

In the spirit of Spring Leaps and sustainable growth, the Purdue School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE) is consistently creating more opportunities to prepare professionals to “address complex global challenges at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and economic growth,” such as with the launch of a new online Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) in Sustainability Engineering.

Working to become a leading researcher in industrial sustainability within academia, Xiaohan Wu, a PhD candidate in the Sustainable Engineering Technology and Systems (S.E.T.S.) group of Purdue University’s School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE), presented research at the 2025 ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC).

Opportunities to gain combined skills in science, technology, engineering, and math to put into practice for sustainability and environmental impact have undergraduate and graduate students making giant leaps and choosing programs in the Purdue School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE).

The Purdue School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE) trains students to “tackle problems from an integrated perspective, addressing both environmental issues and ecological interactions.” SEE PhD candidate Yiming Liu is applying this comprehensive approach to enhancing environmental understanding in his new role as a board member of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) Student Chapter.

Emphasizing opportunities for drinking water quality improvement was a foundational theme in Dr. Caitlin Proctor's November 2025 AEESP Emerging Investigator Lecture at the AWWA (American Water Works Association) Water Quality Technology Conference. The Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) selected her for the opportunity.
