Congratulations to Dr. Pitts' Next-generation Human-systems and Cognitive Engineering (NHanCE) Lab for the strong thought leadership demonstrated at the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society meeting.

During the week of Oct 5th – 9th, the 64th International Annual Meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) was held virtually. A diverse range of professionals and students, including certified ergonomists, academics, practitioners, and consultants attended the conference.

Five NHanCE Lab members attended: Dr. Brandon Pitts (Lab Director, Assistant Professor in IE), Gaojian Huang (4th year Ph.D. student), Maya Luster (3rd year Ph.D. student), Nade Liang (2nd year Ph.D. student), and Christine Petersen (former NHanCE Lab undergraduate student).

Congratulations to Gaojian Huang for winning the 2020 HFES Student Member with Honors Award.

In addition, two oral presentations and one poster presentation were given by NHanCE Lab members:

  1. Gaojian Huang: “The Effects of Engagement in Physical Exercise on Semi-autonomous Takeover Request Perception Between Younger and Older Adults”
  2. Nade Liang: “What Can Eye Tracking Reveal About Situation Awareness? A Systematic Review”
  3. Christine Petersen: “The Impact of Mental States on Semi-autonomous Driving Takeover Performance: A Systematic Review”

Prof. Pitts also participated as a panelist on the “General Aviation Weather Hazards: Current Human Factors Research, Pilot Practices, and Tools” panel.
