Purdue IE junior Matthew A. Kortepeter was recognized at the May 13 Purdue Commencement ceremony for receiving a Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Award, along with five other students.

Among other activities, Kortepeter served as president of the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE) for this past academic year (2017-2018). He is also the current Director of Strategy for PurdueTHINK, a student consulting organization founded by IE students that focuses on building innovative solutions for Purdue student clubs and administrative groups. He is a member of Purdue Solutions, another student organization that specializes in providing technology, systems, and operations consulting to clients in the Greater Lafayette area. He is a member of the Purdue Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society, has worked with the Purdue Student Chapter of Engineers Without Borders, and won or placed in four past Case Competitions with Deloitte, Cummins, Zimmer Biomet, and Land o'Lakes.

As well as receiving the McGaughey Award, Kortepeter won the Class of 1937 Scholarship.

"I'm so grateful and humbled to have received the McGaughey Award, and even more grateful for the incredible mentors, teachers, and opportunities that Purdue has provided me each step I've taken the past three years," said Kortepeter.

This summer he's interning for Deloitte in Chicago, as a Business Technology Analyst.

McGaughey, a 1939 Purdue graduate, established the awards to honor students for leadership potential. To be eligible for these awards, students must have completed a minimum of two years of full-time study at Purdue and achieved at least a 3.0 graduation index. Recipients are selected on the basis of their contributions to Purdue and the community. Each honoree receives a monetary award as an acknowledgement of their superior leadership abilities, scholarship and appreciation of basic American values.
