Successful “rockoon” launch makes space more accessible to microsatellites

A Purdue IE senior co-founded a startup that plans to use high-altitude balloons to deploy rockets. The company successfully fired a test launch in December, moving closer to its goal of helping to end the backlog of microsatellites that wait months or longer to “hitch” a ride on larger rockets.

Four panelists participated in “What IF Self-driving Cars Impact Jobs? CATV Ethics + Policy Workshop: Workforce Impact”, including Barrett Caldwell, professor of industrial engineering.

Jordanian company sponsors 2 Capstones

Last spring, two Purdue IE students traveled to the Middle East to present their IE 431 Capstone (senior) project findings to the executives of a Jordanian company. The executives were so pleased with Purdue IE’s results that their business group sponsored a second Capstone project during the Fall 2018 semester.

Focusing on technology consulting, student-run consulting club Purdue Solutions enables engineering, technology and business students to work with real clients on real projects. This semester about 40 students are participating in the club.
